How did your addiction start?
I’m out of a family of alcoholics so it easy for me to start at age 13
What was your experience when you were under the influence of drugs/alcohol?
I felt better in the beginning, but After a couple of years I started to feel worse, but I was suffering from withdrawal, and therefore I’d tried to control it.
When did you reach the point where you felt its time to fight addiction?
The first time was at age 30.
How was your journey towards sobriety?
It was relatively easy, I joined AA and NA from day one, and it was common sense to me that I was an addict.I just followed the steps one day at a time.After almost ten years I had a relapse, an in a couple of months, it became ten times worse than before I stopped.I was using Coke and Vodka almost 24/7 and lost all I loved and cared for once more.I took me another ten years to find my way back.Now at age 61, I have been clean and sober 9,5 years for the second time.
How does life feel now?
I have serenity for the First time in my entire life.Honesty is essential for getting clean and sober.Once again – HONESTY
What message would you give to people who are struggling with drug/alcohol addiction?
Never give up the dream.No matter how bad the situation looks, there will always be a tomorrow.Get clean and sober,- I promise you that we will love you for it.
